Yeah, I dont know if I buy those guys' argument. There is a lot more to dissent than simply differentiating yourself matierially. The whole idea that the blackspot represents the coup-de-grace of capitalism in coopting dissent is crap too. Yes, we live in a consumer society - we have to consume (everyone needs shoes) - so if you've got to buy some, why not buy ones that you can guarantee were made ethically? How does the fact that they are a marketed consumer good reduce their resistant value? |

^i'm reading that one too, now. i've just started, but i like it. i like the idea that he presents of "when did it become so that you have to be unauthentic to be cool?"
...but we'll see. oh, Sidekick, about "the unbearable lightness of being"... i didn't find the ending disappointing, i thought it was quite fitting. mmm, what a memorable book, though. |

Kushiels Avatar By Jacqueline Carey
It's the third of a trilogy It's an awesome story ..... It's all about politics, war, sex, and religon... The main character "Phedre" cannot experience pleasure without pain and pain without pleasure which is quite interesting, specially the way the author wrote it. |
