My heart sank the moment I saw the Dooms Night posters around town. I knew Spooky was going to be the same night, and could just *feel* the rock being tossed into the water, and the ripple effects that were about to occur. This has caused hard feelings with everyone. I completely agree with Snyx. People don't book a massive party the same night as Apex. Why is this situation any different for Spooky?? If Spooky didn't happen every halloween, there would be that loss of tradition. This isn't just some random party, this is a decade of amazing shows that have been the backbone of the Vancouver scene.

There's always multiple events on a weekend. Thing is, it's an un-spoken etiquette. If there was plans for a small or more discreet event happening the same night as Spooky, right on, that's great. The attendance would not be very highly affected, giving other options to people who may not like the mah-sives to go elsewhere. It's nice to have alternatives to the big parties. Stepping up to SK on their night, when there's a million other weekends in a year for a party and they maybe take 2 of them, then using tasteless efforts on a message board to gain attendance, is telling me you aren't respecting the etiquette. Whether or not that was your intention to take over Halloween, the way you just went about it was completely tasteless.

If you TRULY respect this town, if you TRULY want to be a successful business and promote wicked and respected gigs in this Vancouver scene: Your first step is to start showing respect those who have worked their asses off to pave a plurry path for other companies (like yours!) to be able to do this too. That is so amazing what has been done for everyone.

People create their own situations, and when you have created a situation: stand up and take responsibility for what happend. No matter who is right or wrong. Suck it up, because honestly, most of us are now stuck dealing with the ripple effects of your actions. Posting "polls" with attitudes of "I don't care, we're doing it anyways," is so completely childish, tasteless and rude. Flyer, Go hang up your Posters, Call people, send out a mass email telling us about the amazing Dooms Night. Show us you're promoting responsibility, respect and honor because you love throwing raves.
If you think your company will do a better job: Stand up for your company. Make us believe that you are seriously going to do a wicked job!!
Make me believe your intentions are just as strong as SK's are for Spooky.

The last part of your post is what seems to make sense the most. The part about showing respect to fellow promoters etc..

I just don't see Solid people a company for the people, i dont feel honesty from anything they say. They seem like a young renegade company, of young kids trying to make other companies go down...

I am sure others feel that as well.

I couldnt agree any more. Im not taking any sides here..but this is tradition and everyone knows Spooky is always the last Saturday before halloween. The part where you mentioned that its the backbone of the Vancouver scene : That nails it right there.

We all know that Halloween weekend is always the largest attended/grossing party in the scene ...We also know that both parties will be packed. We also know both parties will rock and ppl from both sides will be happy. But all this is very uneccasary, leave tradition as it is......no sense in another competitor coming in and attempting to claim the others clientel on the same night.

Either way I have to give it to Solid ...you guys are very strong hearted to even attempt this and although it probably is making most people angry, Im sure you will have a good show that night.

My only advice for the future:
If you want to start your tradition w/ a yearly party, Dont ruin it for the others who beleive in the tradition of attending a massive yearly like they do w/ Spooky.

In the end, sure you may have accomplished a lot ..but remember, in the process you are taking from a strong tradition that has brought you guys to who you are today as promoters.

Good luck to both companies... its sad to see it go down like this. - As for myself... I know where I`ll be.

What if half the amount that normally go to Spooky alone decide to go Dooms Night for whatever reason. Thats like 50% of the revenues they would normally make that they lose.

Its just a promoter probably. Its no problem for people who are going to the parties.

I was fairly compensated for volume of work I undertook, but back in one of your statements, you did say how hard it must be to work with 15 different companies and manage all of those in a way where everyone can work together.

The only money that Salim of Swing Kids Entertainment made or had the potential to make is that which his stage pulled in, the same as everyone else.

And Stan, I appreciate that your “sources” informed you of all the Spooky flyers at Apex, it illustrates how hard Salim and I work to promote our shows.

Swing Kids does one event per year – Spooky. We gave up the Valentines Date (Emotion) for Kiss, and we are more than happy to walk away from NYE as asked. Spooky is the one event we can call our own.

As a company, SK takes pride in being part of the nightlife in Vancouver. We do not slander other companies on web forums or start malicious rumors about other production companies. We should be working together on getting more legal venues and making municipalities more tolerant of all night dance events. Instead, we are destroying what we have all worked so hard for.

How could any city council take us seriously if we can’t stop fighting amongst ourselves?

SK Entertainment is a pioneer within the “rave” scene. We have pushed for cities throughout the lower mainland to accept raves and help us make them safer. We have constantly tried to support the arts and taken part in events such as New Music West. We have supported smaller companies and continue to do so by supporting events like Apex Project. We also donate to youth and the arts including: The Environmental Youth Alliance, Children’s Hospital, Air Canada Dreams Take Flight and the list goes on.

Stan, you call yourself a businessman and as such you need to stand your guard. Well a business is not conducted in this manner. From the smallest corner store, to the largest corporation, they don’t get onto public forums and slander and question publically a competitor. Politicians do this, and you keep referring to the “politics” that Swing Kids are so involved in, but the only politics that I see here, are the ones that you are creating. If this toxic rhetoric continues, it will damage further an already fragile scene.

We do not view any company that does a show the same night as ours as competition but as a reason to work harder.

You can continue to point fingers and call names, but please bring it to the people who you are talking about. Salim, Azim, Kraig or myself are more than happy to speak with you regarding this.

For the integrity of the Rave scene, my company and for your company, keep it out of the forums.
