Intruged but concerned
hmmm
I'm favoring the 16+ concept, but I can just imagine the look of evil joy on the security guards face when he realizes I'v forgoten my ID. They can deny you access or boot you out for so many reasons already. Do we really want to give them more ammunition? Just a thought. |

i said most younger ravers. not all. i realize this. I partied when i was 15 too. i know there are some decent kids around, but what i was trying to say is that most of the ones who do go to raves (most not all) are retards. and probably have a hard enough time tackling life as it is without getting wrapped up in a weekly drug induced dance frenzy. btw, altho i dont think theres anything wrong with any teenagers going to raves themselves, there is something wrong with early-teens REGULARLY taking dirty ecstacy and developing amphetamine related problems before adulthood. Thats one of the major reasons i voted yes for 16+ rules (which is still kind of , hmmmmm?) . When your older and you start seeing your friends go down the tubes with drug problems, pregnancy or your own life go to shit, then you can say im wrong. Unconscious Parties will and would never enforce this rule, cause if you look at it. The scene needs as many people as it can get to go on right now and get where it once was, and if a 15 year old wants to go have fun not necessarily doing drugs but having fun at a party then be it. If you don't wanna see little kids having fun doing what they do (don't make me explain) go to a 19+ club which has liquor and no well lets hope not, any under age people there. Andrew you have a point that it works in other places but lets be realistic here, you think it will really fly here? I think not.

Ages 14/15 are the times when kids are most susceptible to media influence & peer pressure. So of course you will see little girls dressing in underwear.
Don't blame them, blame society as a whole as most people are easily influenced by the media, and peer pressure. As one Unconscious Bro said, we need everyone to keep our fragile scene afloat. I am on the fence on this one, but Evolve will not be a trend setter and be the first to enforce such a policy. However, I know the rule isn't currently being supported by any promoters that are active...so if anyone wishes to give this rule a try, throw an event and see if this age requirement will stick. Who knows unless somebody tries?
I mean to each their own. But even though I started when I was 15. I didn't even go to another party until I was 16. I loved it, but I don't think it hurt me too much to wait. But honestly kamal, do you think the whole scene is being held up by the 15 year olds? We all know where the money comes from with the bigger ones to keep them going. And most of the people I used to love going to hang out with, no longer want to be there, because they don't like hanging out, watching a bunch of fucked up younger kids running around. And in some situations getting hit on by people that are much older, and just taking advantage of the situation. And I don't mean to say that this drives everyone from the scene. But I've noticed a big shift in the type of crowd at the bigger parties. It just feels like a big fashon show for people with no tact, and no idea what they may be getting themselves into. Because they are just learning about their sexuality for the first time. And going out full bore, because they have found a place that seems to promote that kind of behaviour. Some promoters turn a blind eye, or they encourage it in some cases. When I used to think of raves it was fun, colour, music, and new people. Now it's just kids trying to be sexy, and the really fucked up people. But I haven't totaly given up yet. I still like to think it's about the music. But like you said, I could just go to a club that plays what I like, and avoid this stuff all together. But if everyone does that then where does the rave scene go? I know I don't see as many people fighting for it like I used too. And I think it's because they are dissapointed with where it is going. Last edited by Kandyapple; Sep 21, 05 at 01:02 AM. |
