Wow - sometimes being on this board reminds me how old I am.

There is a bylaw in the city of Vancouver that states people over the age of 19 and people under the age of 19 cannot party together. When the city wants to really be jerks, they pull this out of their well of many excuses.

But this will not change how the city views raves. They want safe and secure venues, ones like the coliseum. They want proper security, and they want first aid. The lack of raves in this city has to do with the lack of Venues, or safe ones.

I believe that an age limit might be a good thing in some cases. But in others I think it would stiffle the already struggling scene.

If you don't have your ID then go get it. On the flyer it would say 16+ strictly enforced and no refunds would be givin to anyone who wants to test it.
Maybe present to the city some of the changes we are doing as well and hope they can lighten up as well.

Sticky this?
Ill make my parties from now on 16+, inforced.
100% i will do that! has to be done
but... i dont think it will lighten up the city at all. C

If you are willing to try this I would gladly support you in any party you throw, I don't think it would really harm anything to much as all those 14 - 15 year olds will come in a year or 2 anyways. I highly doubt they are gonna say well they wouldn't let me in when I was in grade 8 why the fuck am I gonna bother now that it is grade 10.

If you don't wanna see little kids having fun doing what they do (don't make me explain) go to a 19+ club which has liquor and no well lets hope not, any under age people there. Andrew you have a point that it works in other places but lets be realistic here, you think it will really fly here? I think not.
On a marketing stand point I think it has potential.
I think people may wait a few parties to see if the rule would be enforced and perhaps some "older" people may come into the scene or come back to the scene with these efforts.

Also with these efforts I hope the city would also acknowledge this.
Boodang has a very stong bond with the cities of Edmonton, Calgary and it's police officers there.
I agree the scene is struggling and we need as many people as we can get but I think with a commitment to this rule a lot of people would acknowledge and appreciate its efforts.

You said if someone does not like seeing 15 yr olds go to a club... well I answered that earlier with dtn8er; a club and rave have very diffrent atmospheres.

Boodang has been doing this for a number of years now and it's all positive.

I'm curious to see what people think about this so here's a poll =)
Intro stages to marketing lol.
Okay, well, here is my food for thought on this. When I was growing up I had no clue for what a party was, hence why I found school to be more important than what today is called a"party". If we put aside the drug issue behind the rave scene, then I say whoever wishes to attend the party of any age should be allowed. However, too much partying would detract young students of focussing on tasks at hand...ie. education.

From a business point of view, let everyone in at any age. Who cares if they end up doing drugs or not. It is that person's choice. The more tickets that can be sold will cause an increase in revenue for the promoter. If I were a promoter, I would outlaw anyone saying to me I have a 16+ limit. Bring em all in, I want their money!!!!

Do you know how many people have been lost in the scene because they do not want to be around a bunch of kids who are fucked up and wearing hardly nothing.
I'm starting to go down that path lately.

I disagree in an age limit, especially 19+. Thats just ridiculous. That's what clubs are for. Kids will be doing drugs no matter where you are. Whether this be in a park/school/unsupervised household etc. At least at raves there are security and ambulance at hand for the stupid crackhead that OD's.

Edit: Most of the people that want an age restriction are only saying this because they are now older than the age that they want a restriction for, but guys...didn't most of you start partying at 15-16, maybe even 14?

For Anjew.Yah same here. At first I found it amusing. Then I found it sad and concerning, and now I'm just tired of it all together. I usualy go to maybe listen to some music, and see some friends. But now I don't really have much of my friends there anymore. It's like wander around, try to strike up some kind of conversation with some of the few people you still know there. And avoid the really fucked up people, while catching a few good sets.

As for the kids will do drugs part. Maybe less younger kids getting into raves, and being exposed to so much, will adjust how much kids will do it outside of parties.
The only thing I did outside of a rave was smoke pot. You make your choices to do drugs. Raves are not babysitting centers.

well i have 2 things to say about this.

1. I dont mind underage people being in the rave, just ignore them.

2. I dont mind undersage sluts being in a rave but they should put little gold stars on them like they did with jewish people so i dont get arrested for hitting on them lol

if you would have read what a lot of people said they did say they started ravign that young.
I swent to my first party at 15...then never went again till I was almost 17 I think's it's horriable how little 14 and 15 year old girls walk around in panties or wear skirts that you could see there fucking cunt if they bent over far enought. They do it to look older. I think they should have a 16+ rule I would stand behing that fully. I would want to go to a party and see my 15 year old sister there with almost no clothes on.

You know what the funny thing is about that though. Is that by dressing that way at raves people actualy assume you are younger. I mean look at me at Twisted 04.
I decided to try it out as kind of a little experiment, due to some conversations about appropriate attire. People were telling me I was just jelous, and that it wan't that bad, and the guys wern't treating them like a piece of meat.
What did I find. Most people assumed I was 15 or 16 because I was in short shorts. And guys were contantly trying to grab at me and being vulgar. One guy actualy told me to bend over for him, so he could take a picture of my ass and crotch! I don't understand why it is so appealing at all. And why I would willing subject myself to that behaviour. And frankly with people like that out their preying on girls (and guys) these days in and outside of raves. Why make an environment that makes it easyer for these people to take advantage of them.

As much as i love partying with 13 years olds, I voted yes. I didn't start partying till I was 16 and I still think that was pretty young.

Its amazing the overwhelming support for 16+ age restriction I really wish some promoters would actually look into trying this out.

not surprised about your reply cause this thread is directed at restricting ppl like you.

teens who want to try 'harder' drugs such as E use raves as an excuse to do so. a lot of kids go to their first raves just so they have a place to do E. i know there are exceptions but you dont really hear of a goup of 14 year old trying E for the first time at someone's sleepover.

and the whole lingerie as clothing thing. it's more prevalent than ever now because of the younger girls not knowing how to dress "sexy". to them, showing as much skin and dressing as skanky as possible is sexy, but in reality, it's called trashy. if you compare their clothing to what ppl wear at clubs, you can see a huge difference. by no means are the women covered up like nuns and some do go overboard, but most women know to convey the sexy image with material clothing on.

16 is pretty young. Grade 10, right? I voted yes.

Hmmm... I'd be interested to see the age statistics for massives (not that anyone has any). In my experience underground parties attract an older crowd. The problem is that there aren't many underground parties anymore :(

I'm in agreement with many people here in that I don't enjoy hanging out with people under the age of 16.... especially the girls, many of whom are serious jailbait...

I suspect that the 14/15 age group brings in enough money that they will not be left of out the bigger parties.

ONE THING THOUGH:

I'd be more interested to see a MAXIMUM AGE limit than a minimum. How about, say, 30?

You would never be able to get away with setting a maximum age limit due to discriminatory reasons.

Yeah, not to mention that would eliminate half the asians, a good portion of the Djs' ect ect --say goodbye to Massives forever.
Be serious.

Although I think i see where you were probably going with that: ie creepy
guys chasing 15 year olds.

Personally I'll rave with anyone as long as they're cool.
Ie: not trying to grab underaged girls

hahaha
heres a better solution
a black light responsive band (preferably florescent green as its the most noticable on a person)...anyone under 15 gets one...if you see a band... then its your choice wether you want to let loose your hormones then be throwing in jail (this is directed to all the ped's in the fnk community)
