So I thought this thread was good to ask for some help lol
I want to cook my new boyfriend dinner, but he has been a chef for the last 7 years. He can make anything and everything and he always makes me dinner, so I want to do something nice for him. I am kind of worried about what I could make him, that would be easy enough that I wont screw up I know he wont care if I screw up, he's by far the nicest guy I have ever met. We've known each other for 7 years. Can anyone make a suggestion? |

Very healthy and easy if your craving comfort-fast food.
(Healthy) Baked Fries (1 serving/2 small servings) 1 russet potato potato 1 tbs olive oil (or sunflour oil) 1-2 tsp garlic powder (optional to taste) 1) Pre heat oven to 350 F (set on broil) 2)Wash potato well. I personally like the skin left on. 3)Cut potato into long rectangle logs about 1/4-1/2 inch thick. 4)Spead potato pieces in a med-large tin sheet/tin pan. May want line with tin foil. 5)Pour olive oil over fries. With washed hands mix fries around making sure they are all evenly covered in oil and spread out. 6)Cook fries in oven for a 15-20 min (golden brown on top). Than take the pan out, flip fries over to the un-cooked side and sprinkle with garlic powder. 7)Put fries back in oven for an other 15-20 minutes until both sides are golden brown. *Cook longer if you want them more crispy, but keep an eye on them. *Thicker fries may need more cooking time Serve on a plate with malt vinegar and ketchup and YUM!!! *Add malt vinegar (helps increase blood circulation) *Make a meal by baking salmon/fish with your fries. Just add lemon juice and some seasoning to your salmon (cooking time may vary) Last edited by R Wellbelove; Jan 13, 08 at 10:41 PM. |

Seriously, I think its one of those meals that anyone can do and it can look fabulous at the same time. If you really want to go fancy, get some tortellini. You can find some really nice tortellini at the deli or markets like grandvill island. All you have to do is boil it in water and then strain it. Than for your sauce, just get any kind of tomato sauce and add some fresh chopped veggies (zucini, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers) they will give the sauce lots of colour. Also add some herbs like garlic, basil, and parsley for a little extra fresh taste and garnish. If you want meat, just add meat balls or any kind of ground beef or turkey (cooked before you add souce). Than bake some garlic bread. Either buy it frozen, or get a fresh roll at the bakery. Just heat in the oven with butter and garlic powder and presto! Have some parmesan cheese ready to add on top and a nice bottle of wine with candles. Even if you mess up, im sure the effort will be greatly appreciated. |

I'd advise against using any sauce in a jar or can if you're going to be cooking for someone who actually knows how to cook.
It's easy enough to make your own and it will taste 100% time better! Here's an easy recipe for a simple, tasty sauce -1 large can of good tomatoes w/ citric acid (I use Escalon 6-in-1 Escalon) -1 onion -2 -3 garlic cloves -2 zucchinis -1/2 pound of good spicy italian sausage -dash of cream -salt & pepper -1 tsp or so of oregano -Take the sausage out of the casing and break it up into big or small chunks, whatever you prefer and fry it up until nice and brown, remove from pot and drain on paper towel, but leave some of the oil in the pot -Finely dice the onion (cut it in half, then make horizontal slices and then chop vertically) and start sautéing it in the leftover sausage oil (add some olive oil if there's not enough fat left from the sausage), add the garlic, cook over med heat - careful not to burn it - add the tomatoes and sausage to the pot and bring to a boil - reduce and simmer -while you sauce is simmering chop the zucchini into big chunks and roast, once that's done add it to the pot -add a dash of cream and taste for seasoning -cook 1 lb of pasta and dump once it's done add it into the sauce, i usually turn the heat up just a bit at the end and give the mixture a nice little blast. so simple an so tasty Good luck whatever you do |

lamb korma/curry/whatever- just a guideline. Use whatever meat or vegetables you want. Can crock pot too, just don't add the yogurt or baking powder until 10 minutes before serving. Personally, i think a night in the fridge makes this stuff taste 10x better. It's pretty flurpin good either way though. Turn into a tomatoe dish by leaving out the cream and adding small whole tomatoes
--------- teaspoon of cumin, coriander, pepper, salt, chillie seasoning, tumeric 1/2 teaspon of ground cloves, saffron if ya got it 2 teaspons of curry (optional) 1 cinnemon stick 2 bay leaves 4 garlic cloves cut up, 1tablespoon of ginger tablespoon of plain yogurt (or to taste) 1/2 - 3/4 of a cup of heavy cream tablespoon of tomatoe paste however much lamb you want to eat cubed red potatoes, however much you want thinly sliced carrots however much you want add a pepper, zuchini, turnip or whatever else you want 2onions, white or sweet, chopped 1 cup of beef broth 2 teaspoons of baking powder or whatever it is that thickens crap up. Medium heat fry garlic, ginger, bay leaves and onions up until onions are semi soft. Throw in your meat. Add in your spices. Lightly brown meat, add in vegetables. Give'er about 5 minutes. Throw in beef broth and tomatoe paste. Mix everyhting in. Add cream. Simmer until vegetables are just about done, usually 15-25min. Throw in your yogurt and thickening crap. Give it a bout 5 more or until as thick as desired. (Throw in more thickening crap if too thin) Serve on rice or pilaf. Supply nan or oven warmed/fresh pita don't eat the cinnoman stick or bay leaves (dur) Rice pilaf -- 8 white mushrooms finely chopped 1 ½ cups of rice 3 cups of chicken broth. Butter put rice in a pot with butter and mushrooms. Brown on medium/low heat in a seperate pot, bring chicken broth to boil. Once boiling add to rice. Cover. Place on lowest heat and cook 20-22 minutes, depending on how you like your rice. I make this alot with different variations, it's an extremely flexible recipe, just about anything can be subbed in and out. Enjoy. |

mango mojito's
2 - 2 1/2 trays of ice cubes 1 can of frozen mango juice concentrate 2 shots of finldandia mango vodka 1 shot of effen vodka a splash of smirnoff raspberry if you want fresh lime juice a sprig of fresh mint as a garnish (i've experimented and learned a couple things: mint makes a nice garnish, it does NOT go well blended in the drink, gross. same goes for real frozen mango, my co-worker thought he'd be crafty and 1-up me on my drink creating by blending frozen mango instead of mango concentrate juice, but the chunks of mango just got chopped up and partially thawed and the resulting liquid went down the way i imagine a glass full of chunky chunder would. double gross) this drink is dangerous folks, you won't want to quit. a crowd pleaser. |
