Lets all realize also, big name companys like to support events with big name artists in them. the reason sponsorship is so easily achieved in Europe is the artists are more widely known there. the hype surrounding electronic music is much larger. one of the best ways to rope big name companys is with big name performers. Im not sayin thats the direction Apex needs to go cuz that defeats the overall vision of the project. But lets keep that in mind when comparing Vancouver Canada to anywhere in Europe |

Let's try and bring this back on topic. Apex started as a free party where all the promoters got together and just set up stages. I know a pretty sweet spot that could hold about a thousand. Not 10,000 but one. If anyone else is interested in bringing this shit back to the roots, hit me up with a PM. We'll make something happen. Shaun |

The expenses to play at this event were covered by the other gigs I got booked for down there... which paid (took care of more than enough; flight, accom and extra)... getting paid to do something I love.. why not? ANY ARTIST in the scene will try to incorporate his travel into a booking fee when touring and playing 2-3 gigs weekly. Hence when artists go on tour.. they tend to be cheaper in price. I did happen to pay for my own flight last year though... mainly TO GO ON VACATION. Poland, Germany, Russia, Hungary and Serbia are beautiful countries. Enough said... |

last years apex was my first rave and i had a blast, showed me what electronic music was all about, all these indoor "massives" at the mlc and shit dont even compare to the feeling of partying under the stars

Eh, I'm kinda over massives. If you want to rave under the stars with more than 1k people go to Soundwave or Shambles.
Otherwise there's plenty of small shows that happen every summer outdoors. Spanish Banks, towards squamish, heck there was even a Trancemission out by Hope last year (RIP Martin). Apex and Summer Break did not have the monopoly over the one-night bush rave, they were just the most publicized. 'sokay though. Honestly those smaller parties have plenty of advantages: 1) no dick rent-a-cops searching your shit, confiscating water + drugs 2) much much fewer kids doing stupid shit because they don't know any better - such as pushing over portapotties or fights breaking out 3) NO STAGE SOUND CLASH. God, this is the most annoying part of Apex 4) new venues spring up all the time, keeping the parties fresh and different. Went to two Apex's so far, and they were both basically the same deal: A strong high school contingent of n00bs discovering drugs for the first time, and a strong 20-something contingent sitting back and laughing at those kids. There's also a strong contingent of late-teens who only go for the dnb stages and to steal kids' glowsticks, break them open and throw them back into the crowd, because they completely forgot what it's like to be like that... or they suffer from delusions that they were never like that. |
