Im new to the vancouver area and not much of an event planner but i see the island was mentioned above...is that not a possibility? Do people not want to pay the ferry toll for the party of the summer? or is there just not that kind of room over there?

Why waste my time throwing parties and dealing with stupid drama. Vancouver clearly is oversaturated with dj's and promoters. Theres soo much redtape that its impossible to make a decent profit on one party... and multiple parties are a stress just to rake in a small fortune. Big parties do pay off however, I understand that you are a little distraught that you wont be collecting your "management fee" this year. Id be pissed if I was in your shoes. But what can you do, cant stop the redtape. Last edited by BenGiovanni; Jun 09, 08 at 04:11 AM. |

sorry to hear avana! i know its ALOT of ravers/ ex ravers fav party of the year.
i think the fnk apex crowd should just take some sound gear into the woods somewhere and have a small 30man party just for fun!! we used to do it all the time its still a blast! hopefully you get the venue next year! |

That's true, Adam.
But Courtney's replies where the dumbest, and pointless responses. This post could've been done without them, if she flamed by bringing something smart to the topic, I wouldn't be leaving these comments for you. |

bookings for a rave is not something you can be proud of to put on a resume.
Pretty much, apex or not. the rave scene is dead. Now you look to club nights, or clubs that go till 4am. There's a lot of them, and each of them bring out the old school crowd, new folks getting into the scene and hardly a gangster in site. The rave scene is dead, but the electronic music scene is growing extremely fast. |

Im probably on the same level with everyone in terms of Apex, it sucks that its not happening this year. I never criticized the way Apex is organized either; I dont know where this "greed" line was manifested aswell, but in the end... I think any logical person doesnt want to work for free. Am I wrong? |

So far I worked for free the last two years...
Thing is that Apex has always been about the contributions of the promoters, not about outside sponsorship. Only cases it has occurred really has been when one of the promoters brings in some outside money for their stage, but that's a lot different than getting the whole show sponsored. In Canada I wouldnt know, but during my trip here in Europe, Radio stations are a major medium for parties (live music feeds, 24/7 hype and even radio shows dedicated to hyping events) and they offer sponsorship on many levels before the party has been even confirmed.. hence why radio stations are advertised on flyers. So im running off of what I know from my personal experience...

God forbid I enjoy setting up gear? Also, party generally gives more weight when you've invested a bit of yourself in it. Frankly if I wasn't really helping out I probably wouldn't have a good time... too many kids getting way too blitzed on chemicals for my likings.
Plus I've seen what goes into these parties. Just showing up day of and helping set up scaffolding is nothing compared to the investment that the people actually financing this shit go through. Also, there are few things I find more fun and stimulating than troubleshooting lost power to a circuit whilst influenced by a couple mushies. =) Even funner is discovering the source of the issue and telling him that he killed the rave. Ah, Apex. Good times. |
