boycotting the olympics

To the Athletes, the olympics are the only place where they can test themselves against the best of the WORLD in whatever sport they excel in. Which embodies sport and athletecism.

To the host country, the olympics are a competition of who has the biggest wang. But it's also shows economic stability (even though every country has poverty), national pride (even though some unfair and unpatriotic things are done), and to increase income from trades and travel.

Don't forget the good just because you can only focus on the bad. Some of those people in china have absolutely nothing, but they're proud of the olympics (even though they're not involved) because it makes them proud of chinese people. isn't THAT the point?

meh, you can't expect the rich to help the poor. poor people don't know how to save. and rich people only got that way by not sharing. don't 'deal' with the homeless. help them. The homeless need your time. And that is something everyone has and can afford.

How can we have the good without the bad when you've stated in this thread that "the good" basically doesn't matter/exist?

1. it was a general statement.
2. i never marginalized the athletes and their performances other than my opinion that i don't give a shit about them.
3. i didn't say "the good" doesn't matter/exist. i actually don't know what you mean by "the good". not specifically, anyway. if i guess then yeah, i don't think "the good" matters but that still doesn't deter me from seeing how to formulate a better system. this is hypothetical so don't throw that "so what's your brilliant plan then?" bullshit at me. i don't have a plan, i've never thought about it, and that's a stupid question anyway.
4. i've actually said very little about my view on the olympics other than i don't care. i'll extrapolate: i think they're dumb and i think they're a giant waste of time, money, energy.

Olympics-Dalai Lama gives support for Beijing Games

NEW DELHI, Aug 6 (Reuters) - The Dalai Lama, Tibet's spiritual leader, gave his public support on Wednesday for the Beijing Olympics.

"Right from the time of China's application to hold the Olympic Games, I have supported China's right to host the Games," the Dalai Lama said in a statement posted on the government-in-exile's website.

"This is a moment of great pride to the 1.3 billion Chinese people. These Games should contribute to promoting the Olympic spirit of friendship, openness and peace. "

China has accused the Dalai Lama's followers of seeking to derail the Games by orchestrating unrest across Tibet in March and subsequent protests that upset the Olympic torch relay in several countries. You say you're not marginalizing athletes but you call the event that they spend years and years striving to compete in, basically their whole raison d'etre, a big waste of time money and energy. What exactly do you think marginalizing is?

I don't have anyone particularly athletic in my family, but I'm not dumb enough to disrespect them like you have. I recognize how hard they work and (particularly in this country) how little they sometimes receive for all that effort.
