It is extreamly interesting to see how far, and how much of a stranglehold that their government has on everything that happens in that Country.

People take so much joy in watching their home team some times i wish i could get into it. I know it will never happen though and i'm ok with that.

American Football and Hockey are the only spectator sports I can really stand. Rugby and soccer are about the only competitive sports I enjoy playing.

well yeah, obviously China is still a long, long way from actually achieving freedom of press... alls i'm saying is that the attention the Olympics is bringing to that situation might be the beginning of some long-term changes.

Although a little masochistic part of me almost wishes we'd gone zero the whole Olympics.

am not suprised about getting a medal in rowing to be honest.... But for gold in women's wrestling I am. There's alot of stiff competition out there in the women's / men's wrestling event.

The Olympics used to be about sports when they first started but now its all about revenue and advertisment.
The only reason cities want to take on the olympics is because they will make money but they waste billions of dollars prepairing.
and the city cant afford the low income housing in vancouver is because they have spent more then expected on the transit upgrades.
They say that they are going to minimize the homeless downtown but at the rate they are going they will have to ship all the homeless up north on busses because they cant not wipe out poverty in just over 1 year. Its not going to happen
And just last week gordon campbell was on the news in bejing talking about the condition of the DTES and said that everything was being taken care of. i will belive it when I see it

I also have NO IDEA where all the people coming to the olympics are going to stay thats close to the facilities where the sport is taking place. And unless all million of the poeple who will show up can rent cars I dont understand how someone downtown or even whistler is going to get to richmond to watch speed skating. The facilities that they are building are not conveiently placed. there is 2 busses that go to the speed skating oval and no sky train goes even close so I do not understand how they will swing that one

So I dont hate the Olympics, I understand that the familys and athletes involved work very hard, But I do hate the how our city and other cities waste billions of dollars prepairing. If the city can not accomidate with the vacilities or the accomidations they should not get to have the Olympics
