ill be the first to say it 80k a year aint shit, if your making 3-4 times then that then you can be considered baller status. Even then theres people who make significantly moore then you.

So basically bragging about how much you make or your career is probably the most pompous and idiotic thing you can do inorder to prove youre superiority. This is especially true if you work in an area where your payscale is not determined through competition.

p.s. shit, i knew a few miserable 26 year olds that made 260k+ a year but wouldn't leave their jobs because of the money. My mother was the same way up until recently

Money doesn't make one happy, however having money increases the ODDS that said individual can achieve happiness. Basically, many of our burdens and stresses are caused by, wait for it, a lack of money. By having money, said stresses are removed, as are the possibilities they will arise. Money will not affect other areas of ones life, which is why many rich people are simply not happy. Balance is key. Money is important, as are many other things(varying depending on the individual). Some may place money, assets, or possessions higher than others, but no matter what it won't be the most important aspect of ones life. Anyone claiming it is, is a liar.

Also to clarify, SALARY or INCOME don't mean shit. The key is to spend within your means, and save. I know from personal experience, and also from watching several friends and co workers, that just because your income is high, doesn't necessarily mean financial stresses are removed. It might possibly be MORE stressful to be a high(moderately) earner and be left with either nothing, or large debts, at the end of the year, than to be poor living pay cheque to pay cheque.

I am four months away from getting my RN degree and we are not glorified babysitters. As stated earlier, the media has caused people to have a warped perception of what nurses do. Do you know how many lives nurses save because of doctors mistakes?? Do you know how many clinical decisions RN's make?? Pretty sure you don't.

Agreed on most points, except (and this is mostly semantics) I don't think having money increases the odds that you'll be happy. Honestly I'd say those odds are about the same across the fiscal board. That being said, if you don't have money a lot of the struggles you will face will be related to not having enough money. But it's perfectly easy to be happy with your life and still have struggles. Fuck, I'd say that it's impossible to be happy with your life without them.

Who said 80k a year was a lot of money?

Canadian RNs would make more if we let the rules of supply vs. demand determine our starting wage. The only reason that most of us are unionized is because back in the day, it was the only way to ensure decent wages for a female dominated profession.

I don't get jealous of people who have more than me, or who (by my definition) are more successful than me. I just get motivated to work harder. I also wouldn't really worry about someone who was bragging about how much money they made.

Success can't be quantifiably measured by how much money someone makes, or how many things they accumulate in their lifetime. To me, it's measured by their ability to achieve happiness by attaining the goals they set for themselves--whatever those goals may be. That's my personal definition of success.

By my definition, I'm a failure. =(

Nothing wrong with talking about money... people who are extremely passionate about moving up in the world talk money (investments,salary,expenses etc) a lot.. just because they talk about and are obsessed with money, does not mean they think they are better then anyone. Some people are just really into making money, and how much they make is a good way to keep score on how well they're doing
