Where have all the Canucks' viewers gone?
WILLIAM HOUSTON whoustonatglobeandmail.com January 12, 2008 The good news for the league is, since the prelockout season of 2003-04, the audiences, for the most part, have grown. The Vancouver Canucks rank as the biggest surprise. Despite leading the Northwest Division, Canucks regional audiences are down 20 per cent. Rogers Sportsnet is averaging 242,000 viewers a game compared with 303,000 at this point last season. The Canucks' weak audiences may be an example of a winning record failing to mitigate the tedium of dull hockey. Goalie Roberto Luongo, not the goal scorers, is the team's star. I suppose I used the wrong words to describe the canucks - I should have used 'tedious' and 'dull hockey'. I guess 20% less 'fans' watching this first-place-in-the-division juggernaut speaks volumes. and losing 2 in a row, the last to a team the Oilers completely dominated the evening before, doesn't help, either..... |

most albertans are pathetic, i'll agree with that.
speaking of pathetic kids, esoterONEc - are those some GRILLZ you're rockin'? or a set of braces..... I had braces as a kid. But I've never rocked the GRILLZ. thats some hard shit, y0. |

maybe a little to exciting tonight!
for real though I'd like to see Nonis move some prospects/draft picks for some scoring punch. trade Bourdon, Edler, schieder, or a 1st round pick for a rental player. it's be really nice to see it happen sooner than later as well so that the player can have time to adjust to the club. |

Trading Edler would be the dumbest thing we could possibly do.
I think the emergence of Edler makes Bourdon expendable though. I love this team's defense. Edler has been remarkable, I had no idea Miller was so reliable..... that means our defense at full strength is: Ohlund, Mitchell, Bieksa, Salo, Miller and Edler, with Kraijeck and Weaver as subs. Talk about depth... |

Alexander Edler currently leads the canucks in +/- at a lofty +18 :-o
That would be a combination of not playing against the opponents top lines night after night like Mitchell does, AND being a rock-solid, mature beyond his years young blueliner. As Vingeault said after being questioned about whether Alex would stay with the team: "He's not going anywhere!' Last edited by Grapes; Jan 13, 08 at 08:30 PM. |

yes but you always trade from your strength and right now that's obviously on defense. keep in mind they're going to have to give something to get something. Jeff Carter would sure look nice in a Canucks uniform! |

That doesn't mean we trade away the next Mattias Ohlund, especially when the current Mattias Ohlund isn't getting any younger.
Bourdon, Kraijeck and Weaver are all expendable If we were able to land a young offensive prospect for our young defensive prospect, you could make a case for it. But it would have to be a pretty cant-miss scorer. Carter would look nice in a Canucks uniform, but unless you've been having brunch with Bobby Clarke I doubt you have reason to throw that specific name out there. |
