if you have been playing out for less then a year chances are you shouldnt be playing out. I don't want to see you grow into a good dj. I want to see a mature dj that has his own style of playing records. You cannot form that style in less then a year. The problem is as soon as "you" think you're good enough no one can will tell you differently. Theres heaps of djs in vancouver why would I want to see a newb fuck up?

if the newb was my pal he would know ahead of time what I felt about him playing out. thats support. Whats the rush? People are way to eager to play out. little do they know the longer they wait to play out the more they will and at much better parties and timeslots. |

hey Mateo, I fully agree with you on your last reply.
I know i do it as well. Unfortunetly, they dont listen and that show's their in it for the wrong reason. The jump on the decks and do a shit job, embarassing themselves.. Maybe not to people who have no idea what's going on. But to the people like the promoters, other dj's and hardcore partiers. That's one way to have a short dj career. |

everyones to blame. yeah the party kids dont know fuck all but its the promoters who are giving their friends gigs. and most of the time their friends suck ass. smaller parties lack presales which means promoters don't want to pay djs $100+ if they havent sold many tickets. so they book dj bedroom beats b/c he will play for 1 cap and $10 dollars to cover gas. IMO biger parties have gotten alot better talentwise since 2001. |

Actuality? 4 years. I first played with decks back in 2001. But it wasn't until March that I managed to get my needles/carts and actually start practicing. I wouldn't really say that I did much before then... probably played with decks under 10 times. From what I understood (from other DJs) was that I seemed to know what I was doing for a n00b. I've performed once in front of people but that was a kind of background for a Martini night at Fiction. And a bunch of records that weren't mine that I was pulling at random. So it wasn't really too much. Quote:

I know hands down that akeel could take your techno records and put together a better set than you could take his breaks records and put together a set.
Sorry to burst your bubble marty but you're a mediocre dj at best, and akeel is a slightly above average dj at best who has a better understanding of musical theory than you. You do the math. |
