Why not come see me out live before making an opinion like that? Akeel could deffinetaly school me in the break beat department. But its not like im not trying to learn breaks, dnb and other types of electronic. I love electronic with all my heart and as a Dj I went to be as versitile as I can. Spanning most genres of electronic. Where as one dj has 1-2 genres of music. I have 4 - sure, some of these genres need a lot of work, but I am practicing. It will be 7 genres when I get CD decks. In hopes to one day say that I can spin: techno, trance, GOA, breaks, dnb, industrial, house. And ofcourse any dj's dream if they actually liked their music is to use not just 2 turntables. 3, 4 or more... Something im trying to do now with 3 turntables. I'm not saying im the best out there and I dont really care to be the best, I just want to continue with my passion. Last edited by ppcock; Jun 28, 05 at 09:09 AM. |

and as an added.. im already making trance mixes that show 3 minutes of track before I mix in
and with trance that is extremely hard. I once said that spinning trance is extremely boring when playing out but as I showed in Fusion dreams and Apex 04. That speed mixing trance can be extremely fun. |

quantity vs. quality man
i'd rather hear a really dope set with 1-3 "genres" than 7 "genres" for the sake of having alot of quantity ppcock, i don't think you stand a chance to akeel... the guy is probably one of the most skilled djs in north america. lol mixing trance is pretty damn easy imo. i'm sure akeel could put up a good trance battle. hahaha |

Wow everyone vs marty.
Wouldnt it be sweet if you guys were blown away? That would shut you all up :) Im not djing to impress, im djing for passion, I could care less if i was getting booked. its a hobby that i've put a lot of time in to and I will never give it up. So you guys can say I suck as much as you want. Like your opinions count anyways. You guys got me into the music.. That's all I wanted. |

yo marty, i dont think anyones trying to chomp on your bit, but matching beats as a dj is pretty simple...and even though you want to be versatile and spin all those genres, they're all still around the 130 to 140 bpm range so thats really not much of a feet to accomplish. I play breaks, and i also play prog and house...hoo haa look at me i can buy 3 different sub genres of the same style of music. rooty toot.
playing my hippy drum while doing all of that is a hell of a lot harder then mixing...even if you're using 3 decks (trust me on this one). i nominate tribeca as the battle ground, you, me and your techno records (no breaks)....plus its probably the only place that will tolerate such tomfoolery....i'll ask regis to make us a cake. |
