Dr. Zhivago by Boris Pasternak. the author pretty much wrecked his life by getting this book published. he was a russian author during the reign of stalin and he critized the bolsheviks and they pretty much brought the pain. the book was awarded a nobel prize but the author had to decline because of the intense pressure by the KGB. reading this book will add one IQ point to your intellect haha plus it's always referred to in literary circles...kinda like 1984

"...there's a spider in one corner of my washroom. i named him herbert actually he's been there since i first moved in. i've watched herbert grow from the size of a dust-mite to a peanut. embracing the day he leaves his corner and i get to suck him up with my vacuum..." |

I stayed up till 1:30am last night finishing this really great book called the 'Dive from Clausen's Pier' and I was right down at my mom's bookstore today picking up something new.
Now I'm starting 'The Bitch in the House.' It's a series of short stories written by various succesful women writers about their experiences and life stories. I'm like 3 chapters in so far and I'm thinking this one is one I'll be sharing with some of my girlfriends. |
