i understand the significance of destroying a ballot. my point is that some people just don't care or aren't interested in politics. for these people destroying their ballot doesn't represent their position, it suggests that they do care and they're trying to make a point.

anyway, i'm voting.

APATHY IS NOT A POSITION BORN OF INTELLIGENCE, ITS A POSITION DUE TO LAZINESS. I AM HOPING PEOPLE ARE BEING INTELLIGENT HERE.

Elections Canada On-Line | Frequently Asked Questions

Quote:
* Do employers have to provide employees time off to vote in a federal election?

All employees who are qualified electors, that is, those who are 18 years of age or older and Canadian citizens on polling day, are entitled to three consecutive hours on polling day for the purpose of casting their ballots. If an employee’s hours of work do not allow him or her three consecutive hours to vote, the employer must allow him or her sufficient time off to allow three consecutive hours for that purpose.

For example, if an employee lives in an electoral district in which the hours for voting are 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and the employee’s hours of work are 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., the employee’s hours of work will not allow three consecutive hours for voting. The employer might allow the employee to arrive late (at 12:30 p.m.), to leave early (at 6:30 p.m.), or provide the employee three hours off at some other point during the work day in order to allow the employee the opportunity to exercise the right to vote.

As another example, if the employee lives in an electoral district in which voting hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and the employee’s hours of work are between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., the employer is not required to provide the employee time off for the purpose of voting, because the employee will already have available three and a half consecutive hours for voting (from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.).

Dear Diary,

Today I forged government documents and wasted 6 pages of paper in order to vote for a party that has already won, and give said party $1.75. I only did it so I could have the moral high ground in any voting conversations for the next four years because I enjoy walking half a block more than the feeling of guilt from not participating. I then returned to my tiny apartment to avoid dealing with society for the rest of my life.

"I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on
frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond
words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and
respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise
disrespectful and impatient of restraint"

-Hesiod, 8th century BC

Every younger generation is seen in a negative light.

Although I will say ours seems especially terrible...

you know, for people who have seen the way the world is today and seen what can happen when a vote is too close to call (florida?) it amazes me they can spend more time making excuses not to vote than actually voting themselves.

Maybe some people dont have time to vote (time given off work or not). Im not going to drive a fucking hour back to Coqutilam then BACK to work in Richmond, so my vote, which wont effect me in the long run anyways is accounted for.

For those who vote, congrats. but stop looking down on those who dont. Its not the end of the world.
basically your employer must give you 3 consecutive hours off of work to vote. If they dont they face 3 months in jail, if they intimdate you its 5 yrs.

^ Except I have two jobs. So I work from 7am - 4pm. So my day job sees me as having 3 hours off to vote after work.

Then I work 415-10pm at my second job. So my second job sees me as having all day to vote.

Hence my dillema?!

the fact you have to work 2 jobs should inspire you to vote. You could have voted on friday, saturday or monday.

If its something that really interested you you would have saught out all info needed in order to make an informed decision. unfortunately it doesnt appear to be so.

kinda poopy.
