It's called, advanced voting, and taking this responsibility seriously.

This generation is indeed pathetic.

Ok.. actually let me rephrase the question.

Voters:

If your party doesnt win.. what're you going to do!?

you're going to bend over backwards and get fucked up the ass, probably pretty hard.

Where as the people who dont care... it means nothing.
One stress I can personally live without.

at least you tried?
MARTY I UNDERSTAND YOU DONT WANT TO VOTE AND NOBODY CAN MAKE YOU, BUT PLEASE APPLY SOME CRITICAL THOUGHT TO WHAT YOU ARE SAYING BEFORE YOU POST IT. THERE ARE LOTS OF REASONS WHY VOTING FOR A PARTY WHO DOES NOT END UP FORMING A GOVERNMENT IS GOOD FOR YOU AND YOUR INTERESTS AND MANY OF THESE REASONS HAVE BEEN POSTED IN THIS THREAD.

There is a certain amount of intellectual suffering that takes place when argueing the importance of voting with two people named pp cock and pussy kat.

True, however I specifically feel like our generation sucks because we enjoy the rights and freedoms that previous generations fought incredibly hard to establish, and now that those generations are aging/retiring/dying we act like we don't give a fuck (or are just too lazy/ignorant to realize it) and will end up losing those very same things these people provided us with.

of course i voted.

to think of all the people in this world who fight and die everyday, now and in the past, for the chance to cast a vote.

people who dont vote, dont care, and dont want to be bothered to be aware of anything but themselves are sending this world to hell in a handbasket.

its important to know about things that happen in the world.

its a great indication of depth of character.

If you "dont care" enough about voting, than you probably dont know enough about whats going on in your country.

Canadians contribute up to 50% of their earning towards tax's. Why wouldn't you want to have a say for who you want in charge of your money?

If you still cant be bothered to vote than you may as well be happy living under a dictator ship or monarchy where you dont have that right. You may as well tell your ancestors that they never needed to risk their lives and stand up for what they believe in because you will never intend to use your hard earned RIGHT TO VOTE. It really is a shame.

There should be NO NOS in the poll, anyone who voted no should go move to a undemocratic country because you obviously don't understand the system.

End of argument.

If you probably haven't realized by now we are living under a monarchy. The queen is still on our currency and we have a govenor general who represents the british monarchy. Our Parliament building is a victorian architech. My ancestors and many of people's ancestors were called upon to save the Monarchy and the motherland (britain).

When a prime minister go's to dissolve government he/she must seek permission from the govenor general (representative of the queen and the british monorchy). What does that tell you?
The ancestors and the founding fathers of confederation fought more then for everyone for a "RIGHT TO VOTE". I can go on and on about it however it would be lengthly. However I can assure you that if they ever saw into the future over the past few decades... They would literally be in tears on how this country is being managed.

If you want to get technical we're under a Constitutional Monarchy. The Governor General is effectively a symbolic figurehead much like the Queen. In practice I'm 99.9999% sure the G.G. would not deny the Canadian Government's request to dissolve Parliament or veto a Bill that has been passed by the Senate and Parliament.

So you can pretty much stfu about that one as Canada operates effectively as an independent nation. The G.G. is there to sign things and get their picture taken... aka waste Canadian Taxpayers money. The things we sacrifice in the name of Ceremony and Tradition.

If all the people who don't vote because they claim to hate the system actually voted, our government would look a lot different. it's your own apathy that is creating and fostering the very governing system you claim to despise.

It really hit home for me this year when I listened to a talk given by a woman in my company who I respect very much. The topic was leadership, but she told us about growing up as a "coloured" woman in Apartheid-era South Africa and all they went through to try and change a broken, corrupt system....military coming into their school and beating them, pepper-spraying protests, etc.

When she talked about how in 1994, she was able to vote, the first time that coloured peple or women were allowed to vote in South Africa, she choked up and broke down crying in front of a room of 200 of her (mostly) subordinates (I hate that word but couldn't think of another, she's VP). She said after all she had been through she finally felt recognized as a human being because her vote was being counted.

We are really lucky to have what we have, don't shit on it because you're too lazy to educate yourself.

(Kat you're mostly excused because the moving ridings thing makes sense in a way. I would've still voted but your point makes sense)
