Make Up Tips....
So in that other thread, a whole bunch of you were complaining about eye make up, and not putting it on properly.
So I will hand out a few tips.... When you are concealing - Try not to use fingers. They tend to streak. If you can, use a brush that is synthetic. You need to be using a shade lighter than your own natural skin tone for undereye circles. For blemishes you should be using a green concealer as it will counteract the redness. Any pimple that you have popped will have texture, which is why you also want to use the brush because it makes it look less chunky. Also everyone seriously needs one of these: http://www.tweezerman.com/index.cfm?...detail&prod=92 POWDER POWDER POWDER!!!!!! I use loose powder when doing a pro face. Especially in the eye area. A good base makes for a smooth and flawless eye make up. So make sure that the lid gets done. Don't rub the puff around your face. Lightly press it in, in a stipple motion.(when you rub you move the foundation/concealer around) For lazy days, I otherwise use MAC studio fix. EYESHADOW - Always take a very neutral color, like white or flesh tone, and cover the lid with this. The entire lid. It is prepping the lid for shadow. Your color will go on smoother, and less patchy. When going to apply your color, remember to start light, as it is easier to add then take away. I am a huge fan of smokey eyes, and do smokey eye effects with all colors. You can either put the color in the far corner of your or all over your lid. Remember that the lines between colors must fluidly blend from one to the other. If it isn't dark enough after you have blended everything out, add a little more. I will take an angle brush and pull the color under the eye and blend it out. LINER - I personally like a thin line of liner, and I use a cake liner(you have to get it wet with a brush and apply that way). I only usually line the top, unless I am going for a dramatic effect. I make sure the brush is right into the lash line. If I mess up, I don't use a qtip, but a smudger. I wait till the liner is dry, and rub the smudger over the mistake. It flakes it right off with out messing up your shadow. See the brush I am talking about here;http://www.sephora.com/browse/produc...tegoryId=S4700 MASCARA - I never use a curler, they freak me out. Instead of a curler, I will take the wand and run it back and forth across the tips, this builds the mascara up and makes it look thicker. Then when I sweep it on, I hold the lash up for a bit with the wand, it is like curling it. If you have other tips to add, please do so, these are just mine and how I do a make up. It isn't necessarily right. This thread should have been started eons ago, I will add example pictures when I get home. |

Honestly, I know you aren't a baller, and neither am I by any means. But start collecting them and only buy fabulous brushes. These will last you a lifetime granting you take care of them.
I will post a few staples that you should first get in your collection. When I first started out, I started with only a few brushes. http://www.maccosmetics.com/template...CT_ID=PROD1394 My fave brush right here, this is my end all be all. --------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.maccosmetics.com/template...CT_ID=PROD6859 This is a great and versatile brush! Not only can you use it on brows, but eyeliner as well and detail work! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.maccosmetics.com/template...CT_ID=PROD1416 This can be used for Shadow and concealer. Also a great brush. Remember that when I say take care of your brushes, I mean keep them clean and in a protective case when not using them. Use a disenfecting brush cleaner after every use, and once a week soak for 5 minutes in 70% alcohol(NO LONGER), then shampoo and condition after. These brushes are made of real hair. They deserve proper care! |

green concealer to cover redness fucking SUCKS!
No matter what kind you use, high end low end its nearly impossible to blend in without completely smudging it off the redness,or by leaving lighter marks on your face where the green concealer lays underneath it all. boo to green concealer...boo. |

Godessa, chances are you are using the concealer wrong. I use it every day and don't have that problem. You could be using too much. If you use your fingers to apply it, it can look very green. I use a brush. It works fine with me. I also don't wear it, on its own. I wear it under foundation, or I mix it and foundation together. You may want to mix it considering you have a darker complexion than I do.
Zarlon - you want to avoid using dark colors, it will close in your eyes more. You should be using lighter colors with shimmers. Also, if you are going to wear liner, use a brown and only bring to the middle of the lid, not right to the inside corner of your eye. Same goes for the bottom liner. Nicole - you are right, I use brushes from art stores too. But the ones I use from art stores are for eyeliner and lips only. Sometimes I find the bristles from those store a smidge too stiff. And the ones of the same quality as MAC are the same cost. Last edited by Avana; Jan 13, 06 at 02:10 AM. |

Eye Shadow
Dampen/wet your eye shadow with a few drops of water on your brush. Kind of like so your almost working with a very think paint. The colour stands out way more, lasts longer, and looks a bit more shiny. Concealer For thoughs who hate a face plastered in it... only dab it lightly on any spots/belmishes (I use a liquid or the vichy stick). Then lightly smug/blend it around your face from only thoughs few dabs. I find this way I can cover any spots just enough (not totaly), but still have my skin looking normal instead of all caked up in powder and concealer. Face it... I dont think ppl notice blemishes and spots as much as we do on our selfs. Last edited by Ree Fresh; Jan 13, 06 at 02:11 AM. |

Instead of using a neutral shadow on your lashes as a base, USE A PAINT!
Seriously. I have been using MAC paint in Stilife for the last 3/4 years and my eyeshadow, no joke, lasts FOREVER. I'll admit that some nights I'm too lazy (read: drunk) to take off my makeup, and I'll wake up the next morning with my eyes still looking flawless! My best tip is to play with your makeup! Use blushes as shadows, shadows as highlighters, glosses on your cheeks, etc. Some of my most favourite shadows are *actually* highlighters and blushes! Oh, and use a peach coloured concealer in addition to one that is a shade lighter than your skin tone for under-eye circles. I have bruuuuutal circles (it's genetic) and I use MAC studio finish concealer first on top of my foundation, then blend in some MAC select cover in peach, then top it off with a few dabs of foundation before blending it all in with a makeup sponge. This allows me to conceal the dark areas but not have super-light areas under my eyes! Works like a charm :) |

I find cream eyeshadows will work good for this as well, you just need to dab a bit on the corners. When you're putting on Eyeshadow if you use a lighter tone for the entire eyelid and then smudge a darker tone on the edges (in sort of C shape on the left eye and reverse on the right) you'll create a dual tone that can really enhance your eye colour. I think one of my biggest pet peeves is cakey foundation, the foundation I swear by is Revlons one step in Tender Peach, this stuff is absolutely amazing and the tones they offer are really versatile. |

Okay, a few more tips before bed....
MORE PIMPLE TIPS(this could apply and be helpful to boys too, really guys take note) - Blackheads and pimples left unattended are unattractive. It makes me want to reach out and pop somebody. But alas, it is socially unacceptable, so I don't. Blackheads don't go away, they will continue to attract dirt and residue and stretch your pores. They look like specs of dirt on your face, and that one time someone with bad eye site tries to pull said fleck of dirt away and it pops in their hands, it will be mighty uncomfortable for both of you! GRROOOOOSSSSSSSS!!!!!! Pimples are five times worse on the gross factor. If it is one of those pimples that looks like it is going to explode if you sneeze the wrong way, please do us all a favor and squeeze. First, for any pimple or blackhead, take a warm damp cloth and hold gently against the blemish. If you don't have the tool from heaven (http://www.tweezerman.com/index.cfm?...etail&prod=92), then take two q-tips to avoid scarring skin, and use those to squeeze the blemish. If you think you have pushed out all the grossness, try squeezing from a different angle. For instance, instead of from the sides, do it from the top and bottom, the pus likes to move around. Don't squeeze with your fingers. Don't pick at the scab. Do use an on the spot treatment to clear up the blemish. Biothern has a great one that reduces the lifecycle from 1 to 3 days as opposed to the normal span of 8 to 10 days. |

EYEBROWS...................
These are my pet peeve as they never seem to be done right, and when out in public, I want to give people the licked thumb. ARGH! When it comes to your eyebrows, remember the old adage that your mother told you, less is more. Don't shave off your eyebrows and stencil them on again. The porcelain china doll look is overplayed and looks hideous. If you use a power approach to fill in your brows, and the powder is turning pinky or red, switch colors. It means that the product you are using is reacting with your pH and your chem make up is changing the color. It isn't the color itself. The rule of three: When trying to decide on a shape for your brows, you should follow the rule of three for the natural shape of a brow, unless of course, you like looking like a circus clown. Take a pencil/brush/orange stick and line the start of your brow up with the inner corner of you eye alongside your nose. This is where the brow should start, you should tweeze any strays on the other side of the stick. Next, when starting straight ahead, line the stick up with the edge of your pupil and alongside your nose. This is where the arch should go. Lastly, line up the stick with the far corner of your eye and once again, alongside your nose. This is where the brow should end. Don't over tweeze the tops and bottoms. Keeping your brow in mid-range keeps up with most tweezing trends. GUYS DO NOT TWEEZE, THREAD, OR WAX YOUR BROWS, IT LOOKS SILLY. Unless of course, you have a unibrow. Women, don't wax your brows if you can avoid it, threading or tweezing is the way to go. Waxing can break capillaries and make the brow skin sag. Both of which can only be fixed with plastic surgery. Gah, I am tired, to be continued tomorrow...... |
