The drugs: Through the night, i did 1 double pressed- half at the beginning, half just when oakie started. smoked a bunch of pot in the parking lot. that alone was fun as others drank and congregated. The paranoia that the numerous 5-0 and security staff (which at one point outnumbered the ravers) were going to bust on us in the open lot kept us on our toes. made the whole outside experience kind of enjoyable.
The Agrodome: Yeah, the venue looked like it was in shambles. I think it lacked about 2000+ people.. that would have made the obvious difference. The corridors were HUGE and the distance from the smoke pit to anywhere else was quite the trek (i'm lazy). The space was too big and the party was just too spread out. the rooms were hard to find- we coulda used some sort of signage (but the wandering and exploring was dope). Lamz, the whole partying in a parking lot thingy you said.. exactly. The line-up thing (or lack of) kind of took away from the whole experience. just walking up to the venue you could see that it would be emptier. The people: One thing i love about old schoolers over a lot of the young people is their peculiar habit to bust out dancing in the most bleak conditions. I admit, there are the overly jaded ones who stand around and just watch and complain but some take a minute or two out of their night to bust out and give the old dancing shoes a second shot. and even if just for a second- read all the other reviews. the show lacked. but they danced anyways. Good times. The youngins: Yeah, definately not too many of them at the show. So how does everyone feel about that? would you rather not have the 15-20 year old's filling out the space and bringing up the vibe? or... would you rather party without em. in a big empty agrodome? i hope you damned grown ups grow up. The music: All the mainstage Dj's had the odds against them. Phynn was rad. I saw him and i thought he was just one of us; chilling and partying. Then i saw him onstage picking up the slack for Oakie, damn. It was either his youth, or ability as an entertainer that got the crowd going again. His smiling, performing, track selection (Marco V- Godd mmmmmmm), contact with the crowd- all aspects that made him more of the headliner than the $1m oakenfold. Kam, gj bro. Like i said to you at the show, i wish you had more people in front of you for first stadium gig. You deserve that shit. All the locals did great. They got people dancing. I'm not sure if it was the drugs or them... but- The drugs (again): It got the people dancing. The Oakenfold: Yeah, he acts like a superstar. I totally didn't connect with the coke thing at the party before. but now that it was mentioned, yeah. i think it could have been that. he was being hyped up about the show upon arrival and got to Crave only to find out it was under half full (and i'm talking about the main room alone- the other rooms were 1/4 full). I hear he told off people for autographs- boo! spaz. I experienced his leaving 30 minutes early wrath first hand through his manager. That was no fun being high on e and having just smoked a joint and stuf. Thanks kraig for the help. The stages: lacked. the number of people that they aimed for didn't show. Thus, budgets got cut to control loss. The mainstage was cool [oakenfold's personal design apparently]. and the lasers? oh yeah. still novelty to me. The sound quality and skipping and stuff. . well, what can you do to fix that shit when the party has already started. not much, but they did what they could. DJ's adjusted (like someone else said, dennis had a great track selection- don't feel bad at all dude.) and people danced. Ok, that's all i remember about what i wanted to say. .. i might be back for more as my head clears up.. sorry if some of this doesn't make sense |

It's good to see that us ravers out there can appreciate true talent & skill when we see it...
although Oakenfold may have the superstar icon status as a top 5 DJ in the world, we can still easily point out that Phynn was the better performer. He showed us that being sincere and genuinely excited about what you do is just as important as putting together a mechanically sound, cookie-cutter set. At Crave, Oakenfold showed us what you should NOT do as a DJ... Phynn showed us what you should do. |

Haha I had an awsome night, the party turned out way better than I expected.
I was kinda bored at the beginning, no one was really there. However as the hours and minutes started to fly by, I was jumping with happiness and having fun. YAY! I GOT THE FREESTYLERS AUTOGRAPH! Haha I was so happy when I got it too! Damn straight! hehee OMg and they played an awsome fricken set! Damn! Oakenfold's security was kinda tight on stage, as I was sitting on stage behind him, some dude was filiming Oakenfold and his security guys flipped out trying to grab the tape out of the videocamera of the guy. Quite shocking. The guy with the camera ended up getting kicked off stage, Oh well. Oakenfold played an awsome set. I think at times he looked pissed off but wasnt really. Nice meeting several ppl I havent met before. " It was the shirt talking hahaha" I shall rave again next week but I can see my review being bitter. P.S. Rhia I luv you, and Charlie - I luv ur demo, damn!!! |

I set all my Oakenfold vinyl and CD's on fire and watched them melt while listening to an AvB set.
I've heard some shitty sets in my time but I can't pick a single mp3 set that I have that could bore me to death like Oakenfold did. Good thing the Freestylers were on at the same time. I think he specifically asks for the old school rotary mixer just so the other DJ's trainwreck in order to make him to super good when he hits the decks. Man... that is a sweet way to fake out cracked out party people. Maybe I can be an uberstar DJ with that trick! Phynn laid down a wicked set and got the crowd back to life. I'd love to see this guy play an extended set at the Commodore for a Cargo event. Props to Twisted for taking a chance with the new venue and bringing the DJ's they did into town. |

oh, and highlight of the night... When it was over I was helping DetN8R pull down some of the Outbound Flight posters(so we can reuse them,heh)... 2 of the women security guards were havin a conversation in the hallway about the type of music playing. One of them walks up to me..
Her: "so what exactly would you call this music?" Me: "electronica, and there's many many forms of it" Then i pointed in the direction of each room "Trance here.. Breakbeats/breakdance here... House here..." Her: "oh.....interesting...." then i walked off |

Honestly, that makes you special because you hugged Oakenfold.
You know what they say if it makes you feel that much more special. I got there right when he ended his set so I could careless if he was an ass to me or not. Frankly he sucked. Face it or can you not handle the fact that your part of a miniority. Or would you rather jump and down retardly saying you got his autograph. I'm just curious if you were trying to pass the PLUR power onto him or something along those lines. Last edited by -DLO_604-; Jun 28, 04 at 10:25 AM. |

Had a pretty good time... but was kind of concerned at first when there was only maybe 50-100 people for the first hour or so. Everyone has already bitched about the acoustics and oakenfold so I am not going to beat a dead horse. I must say though when oakenfold was on, he seemed to suck the energy from the room.
Other then that shoutouts go to mithridate - glad I got to party with you again lunchbox - ill have to go check out my clone and all the others I bumped into during the night, but whos names I cannot seem to recall as of right now. |
