It's possible to be both Christian and Gay. The United Church and the Anglican Church both perform same-sex marriages.

Question: would you be satisfied by a "legal union" if it entailed all the same advantages that a hetero couple got, minus the actual "marriage" status?

May I be so bold to point out that all this Biblical talk about how homosexuality is evil is in the old testament, somewhere not far away from the part where if you took more than X amount of steps on the way to church you had to sacrifice a goat or something. Religious dogma says Jesus died for our sins (meaning no more sacrificing the goat), and that he said to "love thy brother" (or something to that effect). Nowhere does it say that Jesus said "love they brother, except if he's gay". I believe there's a passage in Matthew that states "Judge not, lest ye be judged".

So shut the fuck up and let people be happy fer chrissakes.

Oh, and don't even get me started on the Catholics...To these people, it's okay for little boys to be molested and raped by their church leaders (who are male, which would make them HOMOSEXUAL PEDOPHILES), but heaven forbid if you're gay and want to get married in their church.

we have to remember that it's not just about the "rules".

that's a legalistic way of doing things, just like the Pharisees. On the other hand, i can see where Franco is coming from. It's not so much about breaking the rules, since we do that daily. there's an ideal to emulate, and since we all fall short everyday we have acknowledge sinfulness where we see it, and then ask for forgiveness *(all from the christian perspective, of course).

And so it's a massive leap to say "live and let live" and suddenly try to pass off gay marriage as something holy, when it's clearly called an abomination. I hate to say it, but that's like celebrating sin. (i don't hate gay people, i bet sidekick is a reallly nice guy too, but it's a problem of logic).

*Phew.

Anywho, like I said before, let marriages be consolidated in the Churches, but legal unions still be done by the government if it must, and so no one is stepping on eachother's toes. :)


ps. for all my joking around, i realize this post has big potential to offend. Again, i'm just pointing out things from a particular perspective. i love everybody.

i think THAT would have caused a huge racism outcry. separate but equal insitutions are still separate and therefore put the other group of people on a different level (and unequal).

that's actually a good point. a lot of the stuff that used to be evil now seems to be outmoded, like that prohibition on eating hooved foot animals (gotta love bacon).

maybe it's okay to be gay as well?

secondly. who said gay people don't want kids? is there something about being gay that automatically shuts off the whole "wanting children" instinct? Tonnes of stright people don't want kids. do people have rallies about them? Tonnes of straight people are unable to have children, and while that doesn't stop them from wanting them it aslo doesn't stop them from being able to adopt them. unfortunately that's not the same for two gay partners. that's not right. to say that another reason gays can't marry in a church is that they don't want children is ridiculous.
sure supposedly one translattion/interpretation of the bible says that gays are evil, bad whatever. don't forget, it also says that about women. what a difference a few centuries make.

You either believe the bible that it's wrong, or you don't and therefore don't care anyway. Churches like United have become glorified social clubs with little to do with actual spiritual matters.

I see a lot of "everyone sins so nobody is a true christian" talk but the reality of it is that gay people live an entire lifestyle in direct opposition to God; and thus are not true christians.

A clause in the Canadian charter actually prohibits this action because it is discriminatory, or something like that (I can't remember exactly, and I can't find Paul Martin's address on the issue on the Liberal website).

Either a marriage is a marriage, or it isn't. Nothing in between. In Canada anyways.

So does every fucking Christian on the face of the earth.

Read the fucking bible already. There's countless laws in there. The book that states that homosexuality is wrong also states that you need to pour all blood of any animal you eat on the ground. Do you know of any Christians who do that? What about those who don't take the seventh week off work (yeah, that's in there too, not just the one Sabbat day), or the seventh year.... How many people do you know that celebrate the Jubilee year every 50 years? Fuck, how many Christians can you think of that go to Church Sunday morning and then head off and do some work? That's a fucking major one right there, it's right in the 10 frikkin' commandments. What about all the Christians who see a stray dog and don't help it find its owner? Because that one happens far too fucking often.

Take your pick. Homosexuality is neither the biggest nor the most pertinent law broken in the bible by Christians.

Read the book. Don't preach to me what you don't know.
